    Form slow to open

    Hi

I have come across this when trying to open forms (IP2003 SP1) in design mode or to fill out. The form takes an age to open (>1 min.) so I pull up Task Manager to see what is going on. In Task Manager there are 2 entries stating,  (Design) Microsoft Office Infopath 2003 - not responding.

Right clicking on one of these and then clicking 'Go to Process' shows Infopath.exe running at approx. 98-99%.

Right clicking on the other instance and then clicking 'Go to Process' shows Explorer.exe running at 0%.

    Is this normal behaviour?

    Thanks

    Gary

This is typically that you have a large number of or just large data sources that the form is loading on startup.

Is this form based on a database table by chance?

InfoPath will stall and run at 100% until all of the data from the data connections is loaded.

    Hi

The form is not connected to a database but is quite large (25 views) and has 4 xml data sources. I tried disabling 'query on load' for all of the data sources and it took the same length of time to open.

What about the 2 instances of Infopath in Task Manager?

I am not sure why you would see InfoPath twice in Task manager.

I would create a new form based on your primary table. Then slowly add your other Data Connections and test each time.  That should tell you what impact each makes or if there is something bad in your original template.

There are many posts here on how to optimize your form for performance.
