    Control properties compared to Access

    Hi,

I'm new to Infopath and was wondering if it was possible (and how) to achieve one particular thing that is possible with Access form controls.

For example in an Access Combo Box control, one can set the Column Count property to more than 1 and the control would display more than one column of data, based on the value of this property. Depending on the Column Widths property, you can zero out any of the columns and only display one column for example. Then depending on the Bound Column property, one can store a different value from what the user is actually seeing. For example you could be hiding an unituitive ID field (numbers) and showing the user a more descriptive field, such as "Products Available", but then you could actually be writing the ID field to the database table instead of what the user is seeing. Can this be achieved in Infopath 2007 and if so, how? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi dbaldacchino,

This can be achievable in InfoPath. While adding the values to combo box you have to set two things ‘Value’ and “display Name’. In ‘Value’ add the value which you want to save to database. And in ‘Display Name’ add the value which you want to show to user.

Thanks a lot! I didn't realize what that setting was for because of a mistake I did. Basically for the Entries XPath, I selected only one field instead of the whole table so when I clicked on "Display Name", I only had one choice. Now that the whole table is selected, I haev the option of showing a different field.
