How do I limit the number of times a rule processes?

I am using three option buttons to determine how a form is submitted.  Based on the selection of one of the option buttons, I have a rule to set a field's value as today().  This works fine, but the form may be workflowed multiple times and the date is updated each time.  For tracking purposes, I only want the date set when the option button is selected the first time.  Is there a way to prevent the field from updating each time?

    Hi, and welcome:

Set a condition on the rule that the target field (where you want to put today()) must be blank. That way, if it already has a date, the rule won't run.
