    Hey Michael,

This shouldn't be too hard, you just follow the steps in the Data Connection Wizard.

    1. Click Tools -> Data Connections -> Add
    2. Select Recieve Data, Database, select your tables, and click Finish.
    3. Open the Data Source task pane, select the newly added data source and viola, there's your data!

Re: Set up a "Receive" data connection

    Matt,

If the data is not in the Totals Cell in my SQL database, I guess I have to write a query to SUM up each month expenses in the ytdExpense Column and display that data in the ytdExpense Text box on the form. Right

Yes, you can use SQL or XSL to calculate the sum. You could even use code if it came down to it.

Re: Set up a "Receive" data connection

I got a question. I'm a little new at this. Some else is telling to do this by a Web service, I think that the advice is wrong because I already have a main dataconnection
using a data sorce to the SQL database. So, all I have to do is

    1. Click Tools -> Data Connections -> Add
    2. Select Recieve Data, Database, select your tables, and click Finish.
    3. Open the Data Source task pane, select the newly added data source and viola, there's your data!

And then write a SQL query.

Where do I write the SQL Query at? I'm new at this. Thanks Matt

    Matt,

I have it working. All I have to do now is write the SQL Query or XMSL to calculate the sum for each month and put it in the ytd Expense, ytd Budgeted, ytd Variance column and so fourth. Can you help me out.

    Hi Michael,

This has been discussed many times in the forum before. Please try a search in the top-right corner for a phrase like "sum repeating table"

    Good luck!
