Filtering data retrieved from SharePoint List

Hello, I'm new at using InfoPath 2003. I'm running SP1 on XP SP2. I'm trying to figure out how to properly retrieve data from a query I have to a SharePoint list. I have a few fields contained in this list (it's a Status Report that I'm trying to pretty up for reporting purposes as SharePoint doesn't give me a nice way to format and print the information without exporting it to Excel) named Category and Status. I'm trying to generate a proper query to retrieve the data but only showing those which match a category of Network and a status of either Red, Yellow or Green (I will use a button for each color and match the category of Network only). Any helpful tips to accomplish this task? I've tried searching and obviously am not puttin in the right keywords in my search.

Thanks for your time. I can provide more details if needed.

    Hey Leo,

As an FYI, InfoPath now has SP2 out and you might find it beneficial to install this. A link to the downloader is on the left side of this page.

How many rows are you dealing with in this report? If you are only dealing with a small amount or are pulling the information over a LAN connection, you can use a quick-and-easy data filter in InfoPath to filter the results once you have pulled them all down. This process is explained at the bottom of this HowTo:http://infopathdev.com/howto/tutorials/default.aspx?i=3ed83f87f32a4b9699dfcd232cc4e602 - You will need to do a little bit of tweaking it get it to work with your schema, but it should be pretty straightforward.

If you want to get down-n-dirty with the query, you could construct a CAML query to filter the results before SharePoint returns them, and therefore achieve a decent performance update. This is quite a bit of work, but it might be necessary in your situation. A rather complex example is given in this HowTo - it shows how to setup a CAML query to write to SharePoint, but the same can be done to retrieve information.
