    Hiding Save Button On Toolbar

    Hi there,

I am about to lose it so I hope that someone can help me.

I am developing a InfoPath Form for purchase requests. There will be workflows attached to this. The idea is someone fills out the form and hits submit. I have created my own custom submit button and works fine.

I have set permissions on the list so that user people can only Add and not Update. We obviously do not want someone modifying their request after it has been submitted because there will be an approval process(hence the workflow)

After the form is submitted workflow starts and task is created and assigned to a purchaser. Once they have opened the request and read what the person wants they have to go out and source/price it. Once they have done that I want them to go back the form and UPDATE/SAVE data in the form. Now I know what some of you may be thinking, just show the Save button on toolbar and you are done. Well that is great but what if the orginal requestor opens it up to view the price. They see the save button also. They click it and it says they cannot save, access is denied. Great! But hey, they are also allowed to do a save as. Now we all know that users are idiots so they will save a new one and of course this will kick off another workflow and of course they have the option to specify whatever file name they want which circumvents the Submit logic that I have put in place to name the document consistantly with an incrementing ticket number.

In short ALL I want to be able to do is allow someone to SAVE/UPDATE the form once it has been submitted. I have tried the update button but that does NOTHING. Documentation says sends data back to server but does not save.

Please help as I am about to say screw InfoPath and then MS gets no Enterprise Licensing $ from my company for installing and using Form Services.

    Thanks

    Stuart

    Hello,

Follow these below steps to disable ‘Save’ button on Toolbar.

    1. Select ‘Tools’ -> ‘Form Options’.

    2. Select ‘Open and Save’ option from Category.

    3. Uncheck ‘Save and Save As’ check box.

    4. Click on OK button.

     Hi,

Thanks for the response but I did say

"In short ALL I want to be able to do is allow someone to SAVE/UPDATE the form once it has been submitted. "

If I do what you say how can someone do that?

    Gotstu,

After months of frustration i found a very simple solution.

Use a custom Save button, not the toolbar. Use the submit option with the custom button.

    Know two things are important.

    1)

Make sure you set the "Allow overwrite if file exist" option in your data connection to the Sharepoint list

    2)

Make sure you always us the same file name when submitting. In my case i use a datetime field with default now() function to make a filename.

    After this, infopath is great.

    Gr, Marcel.

     Hi Marcel,

Thanks for posting. I ended up doing the same thing! The thing that blows is that the versioning gets reset to 1.0.

I am going to start making my own forms in ASP.NET.

The concept of save button is to create a WIP (work in progress copy), so if we use submit option instead of save button, it is totally againest the concept, A WIP copy can have errors in it, so if you are using submit button instead of the save button, it wont simply work, it is a draw back in infopath, you can instead write c# code to save the changes
