    Case sensitivity

    Is Infopath, when comparing fields, case sensitive?

    In other words is [email protected] the same as [email protected] when doing an = to?

    If not, how would you compare for equality?

    Thanks

    Thank you for your Help.

    I am using InfoPath 2007.

    InfoPath 2007 is case sensitive when comparing text fields.

    "[email protected]" != "[email protected]"

    To compare these two text values, I used the following expression:

    translate("[email protected]", "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ", "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz") = translate("[email protected]", "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ", "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz")

    To test this, I used an expression box field on my test form.  You should replace the first argument in each translate function with your fields that you want to compare.

    Good luck.

    Could someone please explain how to enter this into a field? I am a bit lost on how to enter this and where. If I create a new field and do an action rule with

    translate(EmployeeEmail, "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ", "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz") = translate(ManagerEmail, "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ", "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz")

    it does not work. If I put this in a validation rule, it does not work. Must be missing something. Please help if you can. thank you.

    Could you describe what it is you're trying to accomplish, specifically?

    So if I have two fields on the form that are prepopulated by the GetUser service. They are work email and manager name and email (manager name would be a 3 field). The problem is that I want to make sure that if users were to change the manager email address, that they do not put themself there and with the case sensitivity issue in Infopath, the only way to guarantee that it does not happen is to set both fields to be lowercase or uppercase (we chose lowercase). After some user testing, we would like to keep the values of those fields the way they are originally, so ran across this post and tried to duplicate it. But, I am unsure where they are talking about inserting this formula.
