InfoPath Dev

Hey Guys

I've created a form and made it fully compatible with a browser. I published by creating a new SharePoint Form Library. Then I changed the "open in client application" to "display as a web page". When creating a new form: Viola I get my beautiful form displayed in my browser :-)

But - and this quite the "but" - as soon I type in a field that need to connect the server my form stall with the "Sending data to the server..." processing bar. And it really stall. I've tried waiting for an error message with no luck at all.

Offcourse I already tried all the functionality in the InfoPath 2007 client priview mode and when I open it from the SharePoint Form Library with the setting: "open in client application". I works like a charm in both cases.

I have a feeling that I'm missing something really basic - I just don't know what.

I'm going a little crazy here so any input is more than wellcome :-)

Need a bit more details on exactly what is happening when it breaks.

I am guessing it is querying a data connection with lots of records, but detail exactly what is firing leading up to the issue.and how it does in the client vs the browser.

Any thing in the design checker?

My initial thoughts were also concentrating on looping or overload. By trial and error I narrowed it down to any contact to the server. I concluded this when I deactivated all functionality in the form and then added one new field where I in "Text Box Properties" -> "Browser Forms" checked the postback setting to "Always". This is the most simple data request I could think of and it did tricker the same stall as more advanced and demanding postbacks.

I have the same form running flawlessly on two other servers. But as far as I can se they all are identicly configured in the SharePoint Central Administration. The only diffence (again: as far as I can tell) is physical setup, as the problem server has serveral server in the different tiers of the architecture. However, I have no idea if this have anything to do with the problem.

This would be due to the post back setting.

Why are you changing this to always?

This is going to greatly increase the traffic to the server.

There may be some issue with the communication with this particular server or how it is resolved.

I chose the setting Always just to test it. By default everything is set to If necessary. I have set everthing to Never. I controle the postbacks with actions. I chose to set this single field to always just for the test of it.

I think you are right about the communication - just can't figure it out :-(
