to link dropdownbox with 1 xml

    Hi everyone,

    First off all.
I have an xmlform with departmentnames, departmentcode and invoiceslettercodes for each department.

In infopath, in my form i have 2 dropdown listboxes A and B.
I would like users choose a name in the listboxA, then when they print i dont want the departmentname on the print but the departmentcode. At the same time they choose the department name i need the listboxB to show the lettercode from that department.

Who can help me out pls?
    Regards
    Henny

For the second list box to show the right value, please review the following articles and example forms:

    http://www.infopathdev.com/search.aspx?s="Cascading%20List"

For the print issue, it sounds like what you need to do is create a separate "print view"... you can create a new view for printing, and associate it with your editable view so that when the user tries to print while editing, the print view is used for the printout.

Re: to link dropdownbox with 1 xml

    Hello Greg,

I learned a lot of the tutorial but it is not what i am looking for in this case.
    True i have cascading lists.
The first one named "Departments" and the second one named "V-code'.

But when i make a selection in the first dropdownlist i need a lettercode to automaticly apear in the V-code list.

Also when i print the document I want the user to see department name they choose on screen but the print should show a ciphercode instead of the departmentname.

All of these [departments, ciphercodes and lettercodes] are specified in an xml schema.
Hope I explained myself better thisway.

    Kind regards
    Henny

Add a rule to the "Departments" drop-down list which sets the value of the "V-Code" list. That way the user doesn't need to select it themselves.

Create a print view and assiciate it with your edit view. The print view will display the cipher code name, while the edit view will continue to show the department name.

    Hi Greg,

The last solution did work and is solved.
However when I Added a rule to the "Departments" drop-down list which sets the value of the "V-Code" list it doesn't seem to work.

I made a rule setting fields value. Choose the field Vcode where the code should automaticly show en put @Vcode in the value box.

    Hope you're still with me...tnx

Try setting the Vcode field with some random text like, "TESTING!" to see if that value is set correctly into the field. If so, you've got that part of the problem working correctly, then we just need to focus on pulling the right vcode value and placing it there.

My guess is that you have the above part working correctly, but that you are not getting the right value to set.

As you are dealing with a repeating list, this might be a straight-forward fix, or it might involve using the current() function. Please do a little research into how to use the current() function using both the Site Search and the Forums Search. Try out what you've learned and then get back to me on where things are at.

    Hi Greg,

Your guess is right as usual ;)

The value is correct, I got "testing" as you suggested.
However I am still working on pulling the right Vcode in there.

In my xml document ive got the lines written like this:
    "
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    - <Afdelingen>
    <naam code="1113" Vcode="CA">CAProduction</naam>
    <naam code="1246" Vcode="DF"> Active parts</naam>
    etc...
    </Afdelingen>
    "
    ----Naam translates to name
    ----Afdelingen translates to Departments

In Infopath I can get the ciphercode in the code field and Vcode in the Vcodefield but then users need to choose the department twice in seperate boxes.
I want them to choose the departmentname in the [cipher]code field so it will change to the ciphercode [and that is working too] but next i want the vcode box to automaticly adjust her lettercode to the corresponding ciphercode in the first box.

Thats the only problem i left in this scenario.

Hope there is still a solution out there.:)
    Kind Regards
    Henny
