Populating a drop down based on selected value

    Hello,

I have recently descovered Infopath while developing an application but also stumbled across a few dilemmas along the way.

I am trying to populate a drop down based on the value selected on a previous drop down but I don't know how exactly to do this - my intention is not to use code, I'd rather prefer to use rules or filters.

    Let's say I have drop down 1 with values a and b.
I want drop down 2 to display 1 and 2 when value a is selected and 3 and 4 when b is selected.

Can you please help me with this?
Please give me detailed explanations on how to do this if possible, I am quite new to Infopath.

    Thank you in advance,
    Monica

Monica, welcome to our forum! You are looking to build cascading drowns. If you type "cascading dropdown" into the search box in the left blue column, a bunch of tutorials and Example forms will come up which can help you out. One example is:

Re: Populating a drop down based on selected value

    Hello,

Thank you very much for this, it has been very helpful. And thank you for your fast reply.
Actually I need my form to interact with a Sharepoint list - so I created a list that stated which item in the first drop down should be associated with each item with the drop down in the second list, selected the drop down values for the second one to be taken from a data source reffering to that list in sharepoint and just added the filter to display only values that correspond to the value selected in the first drop-down.
Works like a charm - thank you for your help and for the fast response.
