    Yes.

Go to tools and submit options.

Switch the drop down to rules and add them as needed.

Re: rules on the built-in submit button

i want to disable the built in submit button if the value of a field is false.

Can I do Condititional formatting on the built in submit button so that it becomes disabled if the value of a field is false?

You cannot disable it, that is why using your own button and not the toolbar button is preferrable.

I assume you are referring to the button in the toolbar as the "built in".

You can use conditional formatting on any button in the view.

Otherwise use validation on the control or field and the toolbar button will still be active but will not allow the submit until the condition is met.

Unfortunately, the error generated is often not very intutitive. You could have a custom message box.

I'd would love to use the my own button but there seem to be problems when using customized buttons. it only submit the first time.

I do not believe this is a real issue.

I believe this is how you are naming the files.

If the file name changes then it is going to add a new file rather than replacing the original.

    What is your naming scheme?

What is the original file name? What is the new file name?

The filename is taken from a unique field in the form and it doesnt change in the other views. it should be the same.

I have even ticked the "allow overwrite if file exists" but it still doesnt work.

So you are saying it creates two files with the same name?

When you look in the library at both files what do you see? The field must be changing.

when I use the "built-in" submit button it just overwrites it I think..

but it doesnt allow me to submit when I use my my own button. it works the first time. but then in other views it doesnt. the form just doesnt close or anything.

It sounds like the issue is with the other button's conditions and rules.

Are they set to submit or to perform rules?

Re: rules on the built-in submit button

they are all set to submit.

now I think I know what hte problem is.

in my sharePoint I have two different views, Home and Finance, and two different security groups:

    • Finance_users (contibute and read access to Home view)
    • Regular_users (read access to Finance view).

When submitting a form the forms gets submitted to a form library in the Finance view. The Home view is where users can see their task list.

I think the problem is because Regular_users only have read access to the Finance view and so they cant write anything to the form libraries in Finance view. I know this because I ran it using the admin logon who has full permissions and the submit button worked.

now i want to Regaular_users to be able to submit forms to the form libraries in Finance view wihtout being able to go in there and deleting or modify exisiting forms.

     What permission do they need?

    Thanks.

As far as I know, you can't do this without customizing SharePoint roles. There is no out-of-box role that supports adding but not reading/deleting. SharePoint lacks the fine-grained permissions. Our Qdabra DBXL Web Services Suite supports this scenario and integrates with SharePoint so that you don't have to worry about changing the user expereince. Let me know if you are interested in a demo.
