    Layout Table - Hide Row?

I have a layout table with 2 columns and multiple rows. The first column has text, the second column has a field. What I would like to do is hide the whole row if there isn't any data in the field on that row.

    Ex.
    Row 5
    Col 1 - Phone Number
Col 2 - Phone Number field

If there isn't any data in the Phone Number field, hide row 5.

Is this possible? Is there a better way?

    TIA,
    Crystal

Need to place a Section around that row (i.e. need to break up your layout table). Then add the conditional formatting on the Section.

I never thought of trying that...duh...that's why I'm posting in newbie!

    Thanks.

I put the info in a section and now it's not appearing at all. I checked to make sure the 'Include the section in the form by default' option is selected. What else could cause this problem.

Perhaps your conditional formatting is the issue. Just having a section around the layout table should not cause it to disappear like that unless its set to not be inlcuded by default.

I looked at the conditional formatting, there is nothing there. Any other ideas?

I tried moving the sections out of the layout table. So I have a Section with 3 sections inside it. There is no conditional formatting on any of the interior sections or the containing section. Is there anything else that could be causing this? I've been working on this for 3 days and I'm about to pull my hair out!

I can put text in the containing section between the 3 interior sections and it displays. But none of the interior sections display. So it seems to be a problem with each interior section. But again, I've looked for conditional formatting and there is none. Is there somewhere else I can look?

Look at Tools | Default Values to make sure that the nodes those sections are bound to are present when you start a new form (i.e. the check box is selected).

The other thing that concerned me was you said that you had the sections inside the layout table. The layout table for the particular row should have been inside the section -- not the other way around. This way you can place conditional formatting on the section to make that row hide.

Not sure other than the above what would be causing your section to not appear. Do other sections work properly?

I removed the sections from the layout table thinking that could be the problem.

    Here#%92s the problem:

I have a main section on my form. This section contains text and 3 other sections. The text in the main section shows up fine. But none of the sections within the main section show up. I verified that the option to display them by default is selected. I also verified that the option was set on each of the sections. I can even add a new section in the main section without setting any options and it will not display.

Any ideas? Could there be an issue with sections within sections?

I also verified that all the items were "enabled" under Tools | Default Values.

I'm really at a loss at what to do next. :)

Please try to create a similar layout in a brand new blank form. If it works there, then there's something else wrong in your form that needs to be figured out. If it doesn't work in a new blank form, then perhaps your InfoPath installation is messed up and needs to be reinstalled.

Re: Layout Table - Hide Row?

I created a new view. I added main section and then added text in that section as well as a section that contained a layout table. Upon viewing the new view - nothing appeared. However, I filled out a new form - then all the info showed up - including the layout tables on the original form I was having problems with. If I now open an item that existed before the change, those items do not show up - nor do I get a schema error. It's just like they never existed. Now, if I go back and open the new item I just created, I can see those sections that didn't appear previously.

    Does this make sense?

So when you got it to work in the new view, did it also work in the old view.

What I really was asking was for you to start completely from scratch with an entirely new different form. Completely leaving your existing one out of the picture. I wanted to know if this happens when you try to create a new blank form from scratch. This information is very important as it will help narrow down whether this is an issue specifically with your existing form or with your InfoPath installation.

Sorry to put you through so much effort on this, but its an important step in the debugging process.
