    Exporting Data to Excel

I have a number of forms (same form, different users) and I want to transfer all the information in the fields to an Excel Spreadsheet. When I export it, it opens a new sheet each time. Is there a way to tell it to export it to the one I started with to create a list?

    Thanks.

Ah this is a great question. There is not a way to export to the same sheet. However, with InfoPath 2007 and Excel 2007 when you do the export it automatically creates an XML map so that you can open the workbook in Excel and import subsequent InfoPath files.

You can do the same import in Excel 2003 but you have to manually create the XML map.

    Re: Exporting Data to Excel

I am using the help directions in excel to try to create my mapping. It refers to .xsd, my InfoPath form template is an .xsn. What is the difference?

    Re: Exporting Data to Excel

Ah ok. There are two ways to get the "schema" into Excel.

Option 1) The easiest is to just open your form, save an empty data file. Then in Excel instead of mapping to an XSD you can also map to an XML file. It will interpret the XSD schema from the sample XML file you created from InfoPath.

Option 2) To get the actual XSD from InfoPath, in InfoPath designer, select File::Save as Source files or Extract Source Files (depending on the version you have). Then in that folder you will find an XSD file which corresponds to your form's main data source. Point Excel to that file.

Note, the second method is required if you have any optional or repeating sections because the empty sample file you save from InfoPath may not include those in a way that Excel can interpret just from an empty sample file.

    hrmjs,

The ".xsn" file is your entire solution - that is basically a cab file of your InfoPath template. An InfoPath template is a collection of files that together describe your solution. Within your .xsn are a number of other files including the .xsd file which is your xml schema information that Excel needs to map data from your InfoPath file to a worksheet.

Here is a good description of all the general layout of an InfoPath template file and the components within:

    hope that helps

How do I export data from ALL Repeating sections to Excel?

    Hello,

I'm reading thru the replies on this subject but am still having an issue understanding how to address this...  When I export data from my InfoPath 2003 form to Excel, only the data from the first repeating section is exported.  How do I export data from all the repeating sections?  Is this a conditional formatting or coding issue?

    Thank you!

Is there any way to export data from a repeating table to an excel sheet on click of button? (i.e. it should be done programatically.. The user should be able to click a button on the form and the data should be transferred to the excel sheet - without having to use any export wizards)

Note: The repeating table is populated with data from a secondary data source (SQL/web services)

    Hi Victoria,

Any luck with your export? I am trying to do the same thing now. Export my filtered secondary data (displayed as a repeating table on my form) to Excel on a click of a button.

Export seem to work for only form data and not Secondary data sources.

    Hi Zhen,

Yes, you cannot export secondary data sources. I suggest copying the contents into the main data source and then exporting. You could also just treat it as a separate document type in DBXL and report on it that way.
