Populating a drop down list box with C# managed code

     My first post,

    wish me luck.  I

have successfully populated a drop down list using the code listed here:   http://enterprise-solutions.swits.net/infopath2007/programmatically-fill-populate-drop-down-list-box-infopath-2007.htm

In fact, I've added over 400 items to my drop down list.   The problem, it takes 8-10 minutes to populate these 400 items.  They're just text strings such as, Input Voltage, Relative Humidity, Output Voltage, etc.    Is there any way to speed this up?

    Thanks, in advance.

    Maureen

    Welcome to the forum Maureen.

400 items are a lot to load into your form and it takes quite a while. For performance reasons and often usability you want to break this up into smaller lists and then query for the actual items.

So create groupings by type, category, etc and then users can find the item they need in a more organized manner and it will perform much better.

I would suggest cascading dropdowns to narrow your choices or some other type of lookup method.

Email me if you would like to see some examples.

    Just out of curiosity

Does it take 8 minutes to just populate or does it take also time retrieving the items ....
