    Sample XML File?

    Hi Gang,

I'm just learning InfoPath and I'm a complete newb with XML.  I want to attach an XML datasource to populate a drop down menu.  Well, my first question is... what should such a file look like?  I have no idea what an XML datasource file should look like.

If someone could post a sample file, that would probably get me started right quick.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum Sam.

I think the easiest way to get started is to create a list in Excel and then save it as XML.

Then open the XML file in Notepad and you can see a basic structure.

There are lots of sites about XML on ei think is good it the www.w3schools.com they have lots of tutorials on XML

Thanks for the tip.  I was able to save the file as an XML Spreadsheet and view it.

Then I found a neat little VBA code that would convert a spreadsheet into XML.  And that was kinda neat.

Even later I found out that the SQL tool on our AS400 will actually export a query straight to XML format.  Woohoo!  :-)
