    InfoPath 2007 crashes Internet Explorer

    Hi all,

I have an infopath 2007 web browser form. On the form I have a drop down list box, the event is handled in managed code, c#. When the user selects a new item from the drop down with the enter key Internet Explorer crashes. Selecting the item with the mouse click is not a problem.

THIS IS THE ENTRY FROM THE EVENT LOG:

    Faulting application infopath.exe, version 12.0.4518.1014, stamp 45428209, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 7.0.6000.16608, stamp 4759006c, debug? 0, fault address 0x002bcf73.

It also crashes if I run the form with the InfoPath client.  Any help is greatly appreciated.MArio

The place to look is here: faulting module mshtml.dll. This indicates that there's a problem with Internet Explorer -- not InfoPath which uses IE as a rendering engine.

Do you have all your latest updates installed? My Help | About screen shows IE version as 7.0.6001.18000

Yes, please try the latest IE version. As stated earlier, this sounds like an MSHTML.DLL fault and not an InfoPath.exe fault. InfoPath relies heavily on MSHTML to render the views to the screen.

For reference, my InfoPath 2007 version is: 12.0.6214.1000 SP1

So if the IE update doesn't do it... then you might want to consider installing Office 2007 SP1.

Re: InfoPath 2007 crashes Internet Explorer

I'm having this exact same problem.

I have a drop down list, that when selected by the mouse runs fine, but if selected by the keyboard crashes when you hit enter.

    MS Office 2007 SP1

    IE 7 Version  7.0.5730.13

    Event Viewer:

    Faulting application infopath.exe, version 12.0.4518.1014

    Faulting module mshtml.dll version 7.0.6000.16674

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: InfoPath 2007 crashes Internet Explorer

This problem is solved for me now. I had to change the following:

    1) My drop down list contained way too many values. I reduced from 550 to 453 values.

    2) Some of the values in my drop down had special characters, in my case it was the '&' character. I removed those. I suggest you stick with alphanumeric.

Check if you have any of thos special characters in your list.

The drop down list only has a single value to choose from when this error is reproduced.

Also, the only special characters in the values are an underscore and a single quote.

Let me know if you have any other suggestions, thanks again!

Bit of a bump here, but I continually get this problem.

Seems to happen particularly when inserting new items into a repeating section. No real consistency to it.

Surely Microsoft must have addressed this? Seems to be lots of similar complaints on various sites/forums.

Re: InfoPath 2007 crashes Internet Explorer

I'm having users have the same problem when editing a field in browser-based InfoPath 2010, IE 7 crashes.  It doesn't seem to be happening in IE 8 or Chrome.  Any suggestions besides the IE version, which I can have them check.

     thanks

    Kim
