    Database drive mappings

    Hi

We have users from different areas in the company beginning to use Infopath forms. Our forms use an Access database for secondary data sources for data lookups.

That database is stored in G:\_Infopath\DB.     The users from a different area of the company are mapped to that folder but it is drive L:.   Should that make a difference?

    Hey Ed.

Yah that does make a difference, the Template looks for the specific path it was published to use.

Either everyone needs to sync on the drive letters, or you need to switch to using a UNC path(\\server\share), at least for opening the template.

But ultimately, if you are getting more users then you need to look at using SQL instead of Access.

    Hi Clay,

When you say to switch to using a UNC path \\server\share  for opening the template...exactly what do I have to do.  When publishing do I publish it to the UNC Server Path instead of drive G?

If you use the UNC to specify the publish location, it should default. Otherwise on the next screen you can specificy the exact path that the clients will use to conenct to the form.

    Clay,

I published the form using the UNC but the user is still having the issue.  When you go to TOOLS\DATA CONNECTIONS\MODIFY  the hardcoded database name and location displays in the data connection wizard. Like I mentioned, some users in another area are mapped to a different driver letter. Is there another way?

    Clay,

I think I got it. If you go to connections change databases and click on the network icon on the lower left corner you get the UNC name, then you can drill down to the database....It makes sense. I am waiting for my user to get back to me....but I think I got it.

    Re: Database drive mappings

Oh sorry, I thought this was an issue with the publishing path but you are right you need to watch the conneciton path in the ODBC connection to the database too. Otherwise when it tries to connect it will fail if they do not have that path, in the case of a mapped drive.
