    Saving data in a template

I'm almost embarrassed to ask this question, but if you can't lay it out on the table in here where else can you?

Here's what I'm trying to do.  From what I understand, InfoPath uses (and I'm making this over simplistic) two files each time I use the form.  One is the template and the other is the data.  Is there any way to create a template that already has data in it without linking it to a secondary source?  Once I use the form I will add to, or take away from what's there and then save it like normal.  The data would all be stored in the repeating table section of the form.

The simplest way is I can think of is to create the file, then just open and select "Save As" to make the changes.  I'm trying to eliminate this step and just have it all incorporated as the template.

    Thanks!

There are multiple ways to architect this kind of "template" functionality where you want to create a new document but use a stock version or a previous version as the template.

You can deffinitly put defaults into a blank form but I am not sure that would do what you wanted.

Often using a backend data source works the best since you can load the previous data in automatically or allow the user to select the previous document to use.

If you want to email me I could show you a couple examples.
