    Email form as Attachment only

    Hi there,

I am creating a form for a client which involves sending off a half-completed form to a manager for approval who then subsequently submits the form. When he submits the form, an email notification should be automatically sent to the user who initially completed the form. This notification should not contain the form.

As all managers have InfoPath 2007, they don't want all forms sent in the body as it fills up their Outlook inbox. An attachment is ideal.

    So the problems;

    • How do you send an attachment only? (by code if necessary)
    • How do you send an email notification without including any form?

I have read through other posts similar to these issue, however each one I read involved sending the form in the body only, and not as an attachement. And other notification posts always included the form.

As always, thank you for a great website, most of the success of my project comes from problems solved through researching these forums. Keep up the great work and happy St. Patricks Day.

    Hey there.

When creating the email submit in 2007 you have the option of Attachemnt or the view in the body.

For an email without either, you can create a hyperlink control that does a mailto: link to the email of the requestor. You can add a subject and body if needed.  This would require the user to send the email.

In code you could have this transparent but then you get into full-trust and instlalable forms.  If they can handle an attachment on all of the emails that is the best.

Another trick is create a blank view and in your button rules switch views to the blank view right before the email is sent so that the embedded body is blank. You can setup multiple email submits for each scenario.

Thank you Clay for your response.

I liked the sound of your last trick so I created a different view  for email submit (I have a pretty logo and a background image in the view, but no data) but now whenever I send this view as a notification, the body of the email is completely empty. I am switching the view in rules right before the email is submited, and in my email data connections I have selected send view in the body with no attachment.

I went from always sending the form in the body to always sending the form as an attachment with an empty body, none are really ideal though.

Upon further analysis these problems only occur when I attempt to change view, if I just send the current view then it shows up in the body.

I just know the answer is really obvious. Any help would be really appreciated.

Does office 2007 have an option to send as an attachment only and not put the form in the body of an email message?  All the options I tested always put the form in the body of an email message. I want the attachment only as well.

How do you add text to the message body?  I am able to get the email address and subject populated correctly.

    Thank you for your help,

    Noah
