(Web) Infopath form - German Characters to ? - On Submission

We have an browser enabled Infopath form (published on a share point site)

On an event in a custom webpart --> Initialize the XmlFormView

In FormEvents_Loading event --> call a web service (to retrieve data) --> populate the controls on the form --> Submit the infopath form using a data connection to a document library on share point site

It works absolutely fine except when we get German characters like ä, ö, ü or « etc.

These characters are within a string text which is bound to a Text Box /Rich Text Box.

The text is populated in Text box/Rich text box without a problem but when the form is submitted to Document Library, these characters are converted to ??

So next time when we open the form it shows question mark (??)

Could you please provide some inputs to resolve this? What happens when we submit the form to document library.

    Thanks and regards,

Are these promoted fields or the actual fields in the form get changed?

So if you cave it and reopen it do the values in the form change?  I am guessing this is with promoted fields in the SharePoint view.

    Hi Clay,

    Thanks for the response.

No, this is not a promoted field. It is a simple text box (tried with Rich text box too) on the infopath form which is populated with string data (retrieved from a web service). Sometimes this string contains the characters like ä, ö, ü or « etc.

Form is submitted to document library. When we open this form (site_url/doc_lib/filename.xml), everything is fine as expected except these few characters that are converted to ??.

We submit the form using a data connection (that submits the form to a document library on share point site).

    So something happens while submission.

Was I able to explain it? Kindly let me know. If required I'll provide the more details.

    Regards,

Sharepoint is not preserving these characters.  Do you have the appropriate language packs on the server and the clients?

This would probably be something to post on SharePoint forums or take to Microsoft.

How do we check for language packs?

when I go to "start"-> "All Program" -> "Microsoft Office" --> "Microsoft Office Tools" --> "Microsoft Office 2007 Language Settings"

we have added "German(Germany) Limited Support"

What other things I should look for?

From the way it sounds I believe the issue is with SharePoint not with InfoPath.

There is a German language pack for SharePoint you might want to check on that.

    (Web) Infopath form japanese characters..

    Hi,

i have a web enabled InfoPath form. In that particular form , if i entered some text in text box, it should allow only Japanese characters not English characters.

I am not sure how you could validate a field. There is no universal language check but...

What if you checked for any English letter?

    Does not contain any a-z

That could work if you are using kanji characters maybe.
