    SQL Server 2005 and Infopath 2007, slow connection

    hello everyone,

    I have this problem that´s driving me crazy, i have this inforpath 2007 form, only 3 fields (in a repeating table), 1st is the product code (Drop Down List), 2nd is the description (text field) of this code and the 3rd is the quantity (text Field).

    I have stabilished a data connection with our SQL 2005 server, i have the drop down list to collect data from this connection.

     1st problem

                          The drop down list shows me the data, but when i select any item it takes up to 15 seconds to select the item.

                          Same happens when i add a new item in this repeating table.

                               THIS TABLE HAVE APROXIMATLY 4000 RECORDS

     2nd problem

                  I´ve tried to populate this table whith the data collected in the drop down list, but doesn´t work. I´ve did the with a XML file and it works.

       For the XML file i´ve ude the following XPath code in formula:

                             xdXDocument:GetDOM("dbo_st")/dataroot/dbo_st/designacao[../codigo = current()]

      Someone could please tell me how i can do the same in a SQL connection. I´ve tried the following   code:

                           xdXDocument:GetDOM("st")/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:st/@design[ref = current()]

      As i´ve said befor it didn´t work

    Thanks a lot in advance for the help.

    AND sorry about my english...

    Well the one issue is the 4000 records.  You should probably look at switching to web services so you can just use a data connection of 4000 for the first drop down field. then query the specific record in the drop down so that you are not sorting through 4000 records in the form.

    So you are building another table in your form to collect the selections?

    Typically I would put the drop down in each row so that the context is already there and the user inserts a row selects a product and quantity, inserts another row and repeats, etc.  My guess is your xpath is incorrect for the second case.  You are going to submit the table that they are building to SQL?

    Thanks for the quick reply...

     I´ve attached a image of that part of my form. it´s very simple repeating table, 3 fields (1 drop down direct connected to sql) and after the user fills the form they´ll send it by mail. A major problem is that i don´t know how to create a web service. We have a MOSS 2007. This web service is connected to the sql directly? if so that data is updated in real time? we have here another application that conects to the same DB and it runs very fast... Maybe this is a infopath problem... i don´t know

    The issue is that you are loading 4000 rows of data all into your form since you have no way to query and just load the particular row you need.  That is why InfoPath is struggling.

    It looks like your form is built as a database type form originally by the xpath.  However if you are not submitting back to the database and only to email you might want to redo this.

    The webservice would install on your SQL server and provide a more flexible and faster method of interacting with the data.
