Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 with Infopath 2003 ?

    Hi all,

I'm a total newbie in InfoPath, and I started developing an InfoPath form for one of my client.
This form will be used by clients from different countries who don't have a perfect internet connection, so I can't share it. I guess I have to develop a full-trusted form, and send them a .msi file they have to install on their computer (tell me if I'm wrong...).

I'm currently using Visual Studio 2003 and InfoPath 2003 for development, and I recently installed Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003 SDK in order to use RegForm.exe to convert my .xsn form into .msi.

My problem is: each time I try to convert myform.xsn form to .msi using "regform.exe myform.xsn /MSI /T yes", I have the following error:
"Error: RegForm does not support Microsoft Visual Studio version number 8.0.50727.762"

I've read on this forum that it was because Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 is installed on my PC.
I've created a regform.exe.config file as described here http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/3650/12818.aspx#12818, but I still have this error message...

    What should I do?
I don't know which program I must install to develop with Visual Studio 2005 (but keeping developing on InfoPath 2003, as my clients don't have InfoPath 2007 installed on their computers). I saw that some toolkit called "Office Infopath 2003 Toolkit for Visual Studio 2005" exists, but I can't find it anywhere (I always get broken links)...
Or should I uninstall Visual Studio 2005 (that would really be the worst solution, because I'm currently working on projects written in .NET 2)?

    Thanks by advance
    Claire

P.S: I'm French, so please be indulgent with my English (I prefer to post here instead of posting in the specific French section, because I think I will have more answers here...)

Re: Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 with Infopath 2003 ?

    Hello Claire,

I will make a couple of comments here that will maybe help you out:

    1. FullTrust is not always needed for IP2003 solutions with code. It depends on what your code is - if you do not use anything that requires full trust (such as writing to disk) you can use domain trust instead. Domain trust does not require an MSI installer.

    2. If you do need Full Trust, your other option is to digitally sign the form. You can use self-sign certificate or purchase one. This will require you to spend some time investigating this option.

    3. You can develop InfoPath 2003 solutions in Visual Studio 2005 if you have InfoPath 2007 and VSTO 2005 SE installed. You cannot develop with VS2005 and IP2003 unless you have the toolkit which is not available for a free download. This is a good overview of what's going on: http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/5661/21211.aspx

    4. You can install VS 2003 and VS 2005 side-by-side without any harm. If you just need VS2003 for RegForm, this is probably your solution.

Let me know if any of these tips help. Also, feel free to post to our French forum if you prefer, I speak French so I could help you out en Français if you prefer.
