Working with Infopath, SQL and Outlook.

I'm working with a form on Infopath 2007 thah works with SQL database, and i want to send by Outlook the form, but when i sent the form the user receiver can't edit the information, i mean the data from the database.

The form appears like view, and not allow edit the data.

I try publish the form, but the result is the same, "error".

    What i can do???

    Thanks.

So the form is based on a database connection?

The first user it works fine but the second Outlook recipient it does not.

The second user would need to open the form from the attachment.  The view in Outlook would not allow edit.  You may need to change your Email submit to attach the form not send the view.

Do they have access to the database? Do they have connectivity to the database? Can the second user open a form directly like user 1?

First at all, thanks for your help.

The first user (me) can open from my outlook and edit the data that came from the SQL database.

The second user (any one) can open the form, but can't edit the data from the database.

I try to publish the form in a MSI file installable, and if the second user executes the .xsn , he can edit the information, I mean, by this way he has full connectivity.

The problem is that when the second user opens the attached form in Outlook, theres no connectivity.

Error message when i double click over the outlook message:

(translated because i running a spanish version)

can not found the form template associated with this form. Is not on your computer and the form does not specify one location from it can be recovered.

To fix this problem , ask the administrator for the location of the form or update the form.

    I hope i was clear, thanks a lot :)

    No Problema.

It looks like you have not published the form template.

You need a network share or webserver where you can publish the form that everyone has acess to. Or you can publish for email which means the template is included in the email.

All InfoPath created XML retain a link to the template so that they can render the data.

I would recommend a central location that everyone can access, both to start a new form and to be able to view a saved form.

Publish is in the file menu.

Yes, is probable that my problem was the publish.

Today i'm still trying. I was created a site on sharepoint. My idea is share the template there, i bought 3 books of infopath to fix this!! I hope found the solution fast.

I put the option "submit files... " on the tool menu to can send the file for email, but on the computer that receives the mail with the attachment, the mail can't be edited. I'm in loops!!!

    Let's see what happens.

So you went through the publishing wizard and published the form to SharePoint?

Does everyone who uses the form have access to the site?

They should be able to access the site and the document library and open a new form.

This will verify they have the access they need.

The person who recieves the email should then be able to open the attachment.

One thing to is that if you have it setup as a database form then the main submit should be used in addition to an email submit so that your data is being saved back to the database.

Thanks Clay, i think that i will fix this problem soon, now i have other problem, i can't attach files to the form because this have to be relationed with a field on my database and i don't know how do it. I created a field on my database img varbinary(200)...

i try with the rich text box, and image, but a long message said to me that the action is forbidden.

What can i do??? Thanks a lot anyway for all the fast answers. :)

Unfortunately, the built-in database connections in InfoPath have some limitations and large file types are one of them.  You have to use Web Services to submit these types of fields.

You would need SQL or SQL Express for your database.  Check out the Database Accelerator package.  This includes all of the webservices you need in an installable package which you can be using without code in less than an hour.

Finally i can insert the image on the form. I don't know why but something i was doing wrong. Now is working great. Just lacking me fix the integration with the outlook, but is ok. I think... :)

Now i have other little (or not) problem: i have a client and a server. The application run on the client, but on determinate moment the application ask for the time and insert on the database.

I made it with the now funcion, but the now function works with the date of the client computer, i want to take the server time.
Stored procedures?? Or other solution perhaps???

    Thanks again. :)

So you want the time in your database?

You could possibly set a default in SQL that would enter a time when the row was created if that works.

In InfoPath, if you are going to set the field yourself you can use substring-after(now(), "T")  this should get just the time portion for you.

Thanks Clay, i think i will try with the stored procedure. Infopath works with stored procedures, this is correct???

Re: Working with Infopath, SQL and Outlook.

Ohhhhh.. this message  appear each time i click to put code into the button of infopath:
I have .Net 2005 and InfoPath 2007 installed. I downloaded the VSTO 2005. Going into a form and clicking programming interface it gives me error

InfoPath cannot add the event handler .

To work with Visual Basic or C# code, Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications (VSTA) is required. The Microsft .Net Framework2.0 and Microsoft Core XML 6.0 must be installedprior to installing VSTA

When I go into VB I can see and use the Office 2005 add-ins. So why does it not work from using InfoPath????

i dont want abuse of you help, but if you can help me i really appreciate that :)

Re: Working with Infopath, SQL and Outlook.

You need the VSTA for 2007

VSTO 2005 will not work with 2007.
