Auto Populate InfoPath Form by looking up an ID value in SharePoint list

I have a very large spreadsheet that I have imported into SharePoint.  Is there any way to use the data from the sharepoint list, to populate an InfoPath form?  What I would like to be able to do is create a drop-down field in InfoPath that reads from the SharePoint list.  Once a value is selected in InfoPath, the SharePoint list data associated with the selected value would be automatically populated in the InfoPath form.

Alertnatively, is there any method for turning individual rows in Excel into individual InfoPath xml documents?

Hi Dpriceva and welcome to our forum!

Yes, in the InfoPath Designer you can add a SharePoint data connection that populates a dropdown from this SharePoint list. However, if it is really long, there are two issues: 1) the view may restrict it to 100 items (default), so you have to change the SharePoint default view properties to be large enough to show everything; 2) if it's several hundred or thousand items, performance could be affected. In this case, I'd move the data into SQL and use a Web service to filter.

We have a prepop tool that takes an Excel spreadsheet and generates XML files from it. If this is what you are looking for, please send me a private e-mail. We are in the process of making this tool available, but it isn't in our Downloads folder yet.

    Cheers!

I am also trying to do this.  I have created a data connection to get the drop down values, but need to know how to populate other fields in the form based on the 'data associated with the selected value" from the SharePoint list.  I can't seem to find this anywhere.  I am using Infopath 3.0 and SharePoint Services 2.0.

I am also very interested to know how to create xml files from a spreadsheet.

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi  Jchea,

Write a custom webservice, where U can pass the Infopath DropDownList value to Query the MOSS List and Return the ListItems. Now bind the Returned value to another DDL in Infopath form.

Create a Data connection to Submit data to Webservice and in button Click expose the same Data connection as "Query Using a data connection".

Ya,This will populate the 2nd DDL based on 1st DDL selection, followed by a button click.

    Or

You can use VSTA code to populate 2nd DDL value by Capturing the 1st DDL value.

    Thanks & Regards,
