    Help with table numbering

    Hi,

I am trying to create a form-based test script in infopath. Basically there can be as many as 250 rows in a table with corresponding pass/fail controls against each row.

I am doing this using a layout table with one column containing the pass/fail control and the other columns containing free text.

I am trying to number the rows but failing miserably. I have tried to do it as a repeating table but this does not allow me the same formatting of the text which is required.

I would dearly love to get this form out of Word and into infopath but if I can't do this will probably have to give up.

Below is an example of the form I am trying to create - the info below would all go on one single row in the layout table:

Step - This is where I want my numbered list
Action - Free text e.g. Click on Start ~ Run (need to be able to format font & have paragraph breaks)
Expected Results - Free Text (as below need to be able to format)
Pass/Fail - This is the control it is an Option control
Comments - This is an empty text box for the testers to note any comments about that particular step in the test.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

    cheers,

    Su

    Hi Su,
Use a repeating table to contain the 250 rows.
To number the rows in a repeating table, there is a tutorial (How To) in the following url

    http://www.infopathdev.com/howto/tutorials/default.aspx?i=d663d7df90e94e65abb02632966e8127

Formatting of the text can be achieved by using Rich Textboxes.
U can use a Option button for implementing Pass/Fail

    Abhishek

    Hi Abhishek,

Can you tell me how I could format the text of the table. the Text is entered using the Default Value field but still does not appear to allow formatting even when the field is rich text.

    thanks,

    Su

    Re: Help with table numbering

    Hi Su,
I tried it and it does allow me to format.

1)From the Controls Task Pane, add a repeating table to your design.

2)Now Select a field(field1) in the DataSource Task Pane and double click to open the "Field and Group Properties" dialog.
Change the datatype to "Rich Text(XHTML)".

3)As soon as u change the datatype, the corressponding control in the InfoPath design shows a red symboled warning stating "field1(control cannot store this datatype)".

4)So Delete that control from the repeating table and drag the field1 from the DataSource task pane to the repeating table.

    5)Now preview the form.

6)Enter ur name in the rich text box and try all possible formatting including indenting, line spacing, coloring and so on.
    It works.

    Regards,
    Abhishek

    Re: Help with table numbering

    Hi Abhishek,

Sorry to be a pain. The repeating table would be prepopulated with 250 rows using the Default Value facility so the formatting would be there when the form is open rather than being entered when the form is actually used.

I can't seem to get it to let me use formatting when entering the info via the Default Value field - do you know if this is possible?

    Thanks for all your help

    Hi Su,
    U r definitely not a pain Su. :)))

But sorry Su,It is not possible to have the rich text box contain formatted text when the form opens, with data from the database being loaded to ur repeating table's rich textboxes.
Only after the data is placed in ur rich textbox,u can manually format it.

Because I dint find any way to pre-format the rich textbox so that any data saved in it is displayed to u with the required formatting.

But still dont loose hope.May be the InfoPath gurus in this forum will come up with some solution.
    Regards,
    Abhishek
