    Annotate imported photos

Our InfoPath form users import a photo into a picture field then need to write on the photo (e.g. north arrow, notes, etc.).  This would seem to be a fairly common request for photos imported into a form but I can't figure out how to write on the photo.  Anyone?

This is possible as an ink control, but that unfortunately is only supported on tablet PC's or Vista (which supports inking).

We use tablets so ink is a functionality that we employ.  Are you suggesting that we can import a photo into the form and write on it if we set up the control as an ink control?

Yep, that is all you need. I have done several projects with this same requirement.

    Create a picture field

    Use the Ink Picture control

You can set a default picture or the user can attach their own and be able to draw on it.

I guess in your case just right click on your picture control and change it to an ink picture.

Let me know if you need any help.

You may be interested in the Database Accelerator package. With it you could save all of your forms in one place, retaining the annotated pictures, and then be able to aggregate them for reporting or sharing them with others.

I still need a bit of help on this.  If I create a picture control on the form, I can import a photo but can't draw on it.  If I create an ink picture control, I can draw on it but can't insert a photo.  Can you tell me what step or control I am missing.  FYI, I am using InfoPath 2007 to design the form. Thanks!

It has been a while since I have done this, and I thought that I could add a picture, but looking at my templates the picture was set in the form as a background and different forms had different pictures.

I am guessing thought that with code you could use another picture control to replace the background picture.

Have a picture control that lets them attach a picture.

Once it has a value hide and replace the stock picture in the ink control with the newly attached one via code.

    Make the Ink picture visible.

Since it is saved in the template itself though I am not sure.

Here is a link on MSDN but I did not see anyone had done this or even Identified the limitation. In one they give an example of an adjuster drawing on a picture of a car but I guess it would have to be a stock photo.
