Editing Status Report Template in IP2003

I am trying to create a status report by using an infopath form and
noticed that there is a template for status reports.  I like the form
but not the layout.  I am altering the form to fit our needs and found
out something.  When you merge more than one form it displays the
"Author" of the merged form in the one that you are merging. This is
    great!

    Example: (Template Status Report)

Form 1 has text box :   Name:  Martin

Form 2 (new form), when merged with Form 1 will display Name : [Martin]
    Martin

How does it do this?  I created new repeating boxes in one form and merged forms to another form.  It does not display [Name] of other merged forms.  I cannot figure this out.

Any advice will be helpful. I using IP 2003

This is accomplished in the code (JavaScript).

Is it possible to export the files and alter the code?

Under the file menu, it's "Extract Form Files" or something to that effect.
