Linking Infopath form to Access database - 2003 version

    Hi,

I have developed a form using MS Infopath 2003. Before I have already developed the same form using MS Access 2003 and the data can be stored in Access table. After I have developed the new form using Infopath, I want the data to be saved in MS Access table that I have created before. How to link these two files together because I want to enter data in MS Infopath form and I want the data to go to the MS Access file that I have created before. Is this possible by using 2003 version?

Furthermore, I'd like to display the form according to its record ID. I want when user click the ID, then the report will appear. How to do this? Can anyone help me on this matter? My email is [email protected]. Feel free to contact me if you have any idea on how to answer my problem. Thank you.

Welcome Steven, to the forum and InfoPath development.

I have done several conversions from Access Forms to InfoPath. Once you understand InfoPath it is a much faster and easier medium to build forms in and is much more capable then Access with improved features.

However I prefer to use SQL or SQL Express on the backend since they are more robust and better suited for multiple users.

If you use Webservices, like those included in the Database Accelerator, then you have many options.  In order to use the default Database functionality in InfoPath you have to design the form from scratch. So it sounds like you would need to start over with a new template and select it to be a database type and point it to your Access database. Unfortunately that is another limitation, and to be able to submit to a database you have to create the form from scratch as such and cannot add it to an existing form.

Either one would allow you to browse and update records as you desire, you just need to determine which you want to use.  If this is or will be an enterprise type solution then I would recommend looking at SQL and web services.  Otherwise to create a basic record view of your table create a new InfoPath form linked to it.
