    holiday request form

    Hi,

I'm just trying to come to grips with SharePoint and InfoPath for a company Intranet. What I am looking to do is have a holiday request form to enable users to send in holiday requests to their supervisors who will then authorise it. When a user submits the form it will email the holiday request to their supervisor and display the details on SharePoint.

    Any help appreciated,
    Regards
    Jeremy

    Hello,
    Welcome to InfopathDev Forums

This is avery simple workFlow to do. Create a form and then Publish to the Sharepoint. On Submit You can put an action to send the Form to the Supervisior by Email.

You can Promote the fields you want the details from in Sharepoint while Publishing

I hope this will help You.

    Hi,

Thanks for your help. Think I am getting somewhere now.

I have 2 rules on the submit button, submitting using a data connection. One submits to the SharePoint form library and the other as an email message. However, when I try to submit the form I get the following error message:
    InfoPath cannot submit the form.
An error occurred while the form was being submitted.
A value in the form may be used to specify the file name. If you know the value in the form that specifies the file name, revise it and try again. Otherwise, contact the author of the form template.

I am trying to pull the email address of the supervisor from a form field called SupervisorEmail.

    Thanks,
    Jeremy

    Hi,
The above error which you explained is because of the sharepoint submit data connection but not because of SupervisorEmail field.
To get out from that error message modify the share point submit data connection as to check the "Allow overwrite if file exits" option. (the option which allows the file to overwrite with the same file name if it is already submitted).
And it's better if you frame your own file name instead of the "Form" which is bydefaultly provided with the share point submit data connection.

I hope, the above information will help you to solve your problem.

Dumb question here. But I thought the allow overwrite meant that that any previously submitted forms would be overwrote with the new submitted form. (As you can tell, I am in a learning phase here)

I have been receiving these errors too and can not figure out why.

From an overwriting standpoint, it is only if a form with the same name exists, such as an existing form is opened and then resubmitted, it would naturally need to overwrite the previous version. Otherwise you need to use a concatenation formula to dynamically create unique form names. But if an existing form is in SharePoint it would only be overwritten if the new form had the exact same name, just like in a normal folder. Another option is using multiple form libraries or archiving if you are concerned with losing older forms.
