    Dynamic Data Connection using GetListItems

I am trying to create a dynamic data connection by using the GetListItems web service, and using some of the tricks Matt mentions in the following post

    http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/matt/archive/2006/02/02/Add-SharePoint-List-Items-with-InfoPath.aspx

Essentially, I will have a Combobox which allows you select which List you want the form to be pre-populated from (all lists have the same field layout).  When a value is selected, I will use rules to set a ListName field with the correct GUID.  Then I will refresh other controls on the form that derive their data from that list.  To do this, figured I could use the GetListItems web service, setting the tns:listName value from the ListName field (as Matt did with the UpdateListItems web service).

However, I cannot figure out how to populate the parms to get through the Data Connection Wizard for this web service.  I put the GUID for one of the lists, and when I press "next" I get the following error:

The SOAP response indicates that an error occurred on the server:

Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException' was thrown.
    <detail><errorstring xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/">Root element is missing.</errorstring></detail>

Has anyone ever used the GetListItems web service?

I found this article which suggests that GetListItems will not work without writing a proxy web service to translate the results:

I'm hoping there is a way to do this with a CAML file used as a Secondary Data Source.
