    Email Web Service Works in InfoPath 2007 but Doesn't Work on MOSS 2007

    We configured the web service. We tested it and submitted an email successfully. We created the submit to web service data connection in InfoPath 2007 and entered the URL for the web service. InfoPath found the Sendmail operation from the web service. We added the appropriate string fields for the email web service and then published the form to MOSS 2007 as a browser based form. When we submit the form we get an error from MOSS with no details. When we check the log for the webs service it shows that MOSS never called it. When we run the form native in InfoPath it submits without error and the email gets sent. Is there anything we need to do to configure MOSS to call the web service?

    Hi Seafox and welcome to the forums!

    I thought I had read before that you could not submit to web services from a browser-enabled form, but maybe I am wrong.  I found the following blog post that shows people doing this, but the form was set as full trust, maybe that has something to do with it:

    Browser forms do not need to be full trust to submit to a Web service. However, you will need to conver the data connection to a UDC one.

     Here's an example of a UDCx that will submit to our Database Accelerator Web Service:

    <?xml version="1.0" ?>

      <?MicrosoftWindowsSharePointServices ContentTypeID="0x010100B4CBD48E029A4ad8B62CB0E41868F2B0"?>

    Hi sschempp,

    I have removed all unnecessary stuff from the udcx, for you it should look like this:

    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    <?MicrosoftWindowsSharePointServices ContentTypeID="0x010100B4CBD48E029A4ad8B62CB0E41868F2B0"?>
    <udc:DataSource MajorVersion="2" MinorVersion="0" xmlns:udc="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2006/udc">
         <udc:Name>SubmitForm</udc:Name>
         <udc:Description>This is the SubmitForm Webservice</udc:Description>
         <udc:Type MajorVersion="2" MinorVersion="0" Type="WebService" />
         <udc:ConnectionInfo Purpose="ReadOnly" AltDataSource="">

    <udc:WsdlUrl>http://az01-itmoss/_vti_bin/userprofileservice.asmx?wsdl</udc:WsdlUrl>
                <udc:SelectCommand>

    <udc:ServiceUrl UseFormsServiceProxy="false">http://az01-itmoss/_vti_bin/userprofileservice.asmx</udc:ServiceUrl>

    <udc:SoapAction>http://microsoft.com/webservices/SharePointPortalServer/UserProfileService/GetUserProfileByName</udc:SoapAction>

    </udc:SelectCommand>

    <udc:UpdateCommand />
         </udc:ConnectionInfo>
    </udc:DataSource>

    How do you create a udc file?  How do you determine the <udc:SoapAction> element?

    Hi IPSeeker,

    The easiest way to create an udcx file is to let InfoPath do it for you. This article explains the process of creating an udcx file:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms772101.aspx

    After following the article, there will be an udcx file in the Data Connection Library. If you download a copy of that file and open it. You will find all the necessary information like the <udc:SoapAction>.

    Thank you Samir.  I was able to convert my Web Service connection to a udcx file.  However, I still get an error, (401) Unauthorized, when I submit the form.  This brings me back to my post http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/t/11981.aspx.
