Regarding my 5 position character field (Account Number field) that can be combinations of numbers and alpha of 3-4-5 characters in length. For example AAYOS, API, 600, HYUF are typical looking account ID's. As I mentioned, if the value entered in by the user is API, I need to add 2 blank spaces for the lookup to work.

I think I need two rules, 1 for 1 space ( 4 character account id) and 1 for 2 spaces ( 3 character account id). Should I use a pattern match. Can you go thru the process again. Thanks. The rule never seems to run.

Yah you have it

Rule1

txtRelmNumber matches ....

concatenate one space

Stop processing rules

Rule 2

txtRelmNumber matches ...

concatenate two spaces

Stop processing rules

And So on for each character amount

Lastly have a rule without a condition which just matches them staight without concat.  If you have the stop procesing on the others the only ones which will make it to this check have five characters.
