Working With InfoPath Data: Where To Go?

As my username suggests, I am completely new to InfoPath/XML, though I have some experience with VB and php.

Essentially, I am working with SharePoint, trying to make a form where product features are entered by checking boxes.

    Example:

    [ ] A/C Adapter
    [ ] Cord
    [ ] Sharp
    [ ] etc
    [ ] etc

After that, I want to generate an output where text is displayed based on what boxes were clicked.

    Example:

    If the following are checked:

    [x ] A/C Adapter
    [ ] Cord
    [ x] Sharp

    An output is generated reading:

Required Warnings (text is just for example).

A/C Adapter: /!\ Warning danger of Electric Shock. Do not touch A/C Adapter. If at anytime you are experiencing dizzyness, fatigue, or disorientation, discontinue use or increase use of A/C Adapter as necessary. Do not confront A/C Adapter. Use protective eye-wear and black-soled shoes if exposed to A/C adapter. Do not feed the A/C adapters. Etc. Etc.

Sharp: /!\ Warning. Sharp object is sharp. etc. etc.

Ideally, all the warnings would be in some easy to edit file, that way they could be updated as necessary.

So... how do I do this or where should I look with this sort of thing?

    Hi, welcome to the forum

    There are two ways to solve your problem depending on whether you want the warnings to display permanently or temporarily.  I will deal with the permanent side of things first;

    1. Add an expression box and populate it with text for one of the warnings.  Then double-click the field to go into properties, click on the display tab and select the conditional formatting button.  Then in the condition specify where tick box related to it is not blank or is not equal to the blank value, then tick hide this control.  Repeat for all tick boxes.
    2. A temporary and immediate way is to set a rule on the tick boxes to show a dialogue box under the same condition as above containing the warning.  Rule can be accessed from properties on the tick-box and the general tab under the rules button.

I think the former is probably a better way for you to proceed.

    Cheers

Thank you very much, that worked perfectly.

Is there a way to insert a bulleted list with each bullet premade? Or to preserve formating in text I want to appear when boxes are checked?

    Like:

    Warning:

    • Product is dangerous
    • Very dangerous
    • Extremely Dangerous

    etc.

Set up the fields as you want so they unhide correctly.

Trying to put them in one field without concatenating them is tricky
