    Requery

I've created a database template bound to an access database.

It seemed impractible to require the user to enter data in order to query. I changed the query fields to drop-down, but was unable to get them to populate with the main data connection. So, I created a secondary data connection and they worked fine. A user can select the data to query, edit the queried data and submit the form.

My problem is that after submitting edited data, the drop-down lists are not refreshing. Is there a way to requery this data after submission without closing the form?

    Sure.

You can switch your submit button to use rules and then add additional rules that query your secondary after the submit so that it updates or refreshes the information for the drop downs.

Otherwise you could have another button to update the data.

If you are working with backend data I would recommend you check out the Database Accelerator.  Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.1.2815 - Developer

This allows more than one table which you can submit to as well as you can have more than one table you can query.  So in your case, or what often happens, is that the table that feeds the drop downs is or gets large and takes time to load. With the Database Accelerator you can actually query aditional tables to only extract the data you need to increase performance. So mainly it allows you greater flexibility and removes some of the limitations found in the standard InfoPath database type form.

Does the Database Accelerator work with Access? The documentation seems to be geared toward SQL.

It does not work with Access but, it works with SQL Express. Which is like SQL and Access but free and will run wherever Access will.  It has the SQL advantages of being much better in a multiuser environment, even has DTS to migrate you data from Excel or Access right into it.

    You can check out http://www.microsoft.com/SQL/editions/express/default.mspx
