    Automatically inserting a field

I am getting obsessed with Infopath! I am trying to have a infopath form fill in a dbase field (supervisors name) in one table (Leave_table), based on another table (employee_info_table). Is that possible without knowing a huge about of programming? I am using SQL.

This can be done two ways without any code.

    As a database type form

Design a Form, Select Database as the type, go through the wizard to connect to your SQL table

However if you are very advanced, multiple databases, multiple unrelated tables, write to multiple tables then you will run into the limitations of this type of form.

    or with Web Services

This gives you the ability to do about whetever you need to and with the Database Accelerator Web Services Suite Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.1.2808 - Developer

You do not even need to know how to make one or exactly how they work!  You set them up as data connections and then use the information they can provide.

Included is an Active Directory service that will get the form user's name and department to write into your table ( and make sure no one else is putting him on Leave). It also includes granular permissions so that you can make sure only he and HR can see he is on Leave. And then we have sample forms with work flow and routing already included so that he can route the request for approval or additional sign off and approval.

Let me know if you need more informaiton or would like a demo.

    Clay,

Thanks for the help. I have been wanting to try out the Qdabra. This may be the best time to do it. If I get in a jam I will take you up on the offer for the demo. I am dealing with date ranges and it seems like there is no easy way to do anything filtering through dates.

I do have another quick one. I did a query page that returned the results of Leave Approval from supervisors. One of the fields is a check box. When the query comes back, non of the check boxes are checked even though the field has the appropriate response in it. Do you know of a quick fix for that?

     Thanks Again

    Hey Nader.

This is pretty common. Check box controls must be configured to work properly.  You must go into the properties and define what the checked value is and the unchecked value. By default they are often blank which make the control unstable since both checked and unchecked are the same value. So go in and make sure the value in your query matches the value for checked.

For dates that is sometimes hard but you can perform logic on dates as far as greater and less. To calculate dates such as 30 days ago you need vbscript and datediff.
