InfoPath Dev

Hi,

       An infopath form is developed using infopath 2007.  When I try to run this form , i get the following error.

      Infopath can not open the selected form.

       It does not provide any other information why it is unable to open this form.

      Can you please advise on how to resolve this issue.

How are you trying to open the Form. Is it the xsn or the xml. If it is the xsn are you trying to open in the design view or just opening the xsn to be filled out?

Please check the schema once again, the schema might get corrupted also.

It sounds like you are getting this error while trying to preview the form.  Can you provide a little more info?

It looks to be that you are trying to open it in Preview mode.  In IP 2007 if there is an error in the form's code it will give this error.  Unfortunately it does not give a line number or any other information which makes it hard to spot the error if you have put in alot of code.  Something you could try would be to save the form in design mode to your desktop and then just double click it on your desktop to open it.  Sometimes, this will give a line number in the code which is causing the form to not open.  Hope this helps 

Found today that interestingly one will receive additional information on the error (similar to the messages issued by IP 2003 during the Preview of a form with a script in error) if the form is published and then executed from the published location.  Certainly not the ideal situation, specially considering that typically a developer previews the form before publishing.

We have to consider the below points to debug the InfoPath form,

1.        While debugging your form you have to choose the InfoPath.exe to attach process.

2.        Published version and debug solution number should be equal.

3.        Your solution should be in debug mode.

4.        Can you check once are you able to debug if you run the solution?

5.     Make sure that your break point code should be reach for your test case.

 I am having the same problem.  The form and form code has no errors.  I can edit the form, sign it and publish it.  I can even open the published form.

The only time I get the above error is if I try to debug the form in Visual Studio.  I have infopath 2007, and VS 2008.

 My solution has about 10 forms.  This one has lots of code in formcode.cs and it will not debug.  Another has the same amount of code and it does debug just fine.  Both forms run when published.

Any idea what is up?

 To make sure you can debug a problem with the InfoPath Form , you should start with the simple things.

Dependency on DataConnections and other static site specific information .

Here are the two tools you can use

[1] The Design Checker : from the Tools Menu , select the Design Checker , you can also check against the deployed version on the server or the InfoPath webservice if any.

that will give you a hint on what might be missing.

 [2] The Logic Inspector , also under the Tools Menu , will give you a hint on variable declarations and other functions that you may have used in the form.
