Newbie needs Help - Several problems, sequentially process an Access DB; with results in view, default value on open displays first rec of DB

I have created a form to read an Access DB.  It reads only the first record and does display the view form upon clicking a command button.  However, I cannot get it read a different record, when I enter a value in menu form.  It will continue to display the resullts of the first record in the database.

I truly hope someone can help me asap.  I'm attempting a proof of concept and really need to get this to work to show management.  InfoPath is not used and this would be a nice way to show the power of the tool.

    Thanks, Yvonne

Hey Yvonne - welcome to the forums.

You created a new form, from scratch, as a database form.

It should have given you a default form view with a query section and a data section and default buttons.

You should be able to add the query fields and the data fields as sections with controls in each area and then preview and test.  You should be able to query with blank fields (without entering anything) and the Run Query should display all of the data in your DB.

I am not sure what exactly your setup is but typically you have to play with things to get up to speed with how InfoPath works.

Thank you for your response.  I did get it to work, but find so far from my research that to update an Access db; you must do so programmically or use something called a sharepoint folder.  Can you verify this for me.

I created a query; which my form does extract and displays the results in another view.  It looks great.  But I would like offshore staff to update some fields in the form.  I'm looking for an enterprise solution without buying any software. Which I know is a tall order to fill.

So, I added a table as a secondary data source and inserted a button, labeled 'Update'.  I've tried setting conditions and rules and now I'm looking at XML and or Jscript to update Access.  Which I know little about and have problems even locating a text book on jscript.

Am I trying to do something Infopath cannot provide?

Access is limited and especially if you want an enterprise solution you should be using SQL or SQL Express instead.  Access does not have all the features SQL has. A couple issues is placing it somewhere everyone can access.  You can use SharePoint 2007 I believe to share the DB but it is not required.

The biggest issue with Access and the Database InfoPath form is you can only update your main data connection. You have to use web services to get this functionality.

You may want to check out the Database Accelerator Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.1 - Developer which gives you a whole set of webservices out of the box to interact with your data and Active Directory.

It is free to try and your most inexpensive option to have an enterprise solution and work with any type of table structure you want.

I could show you a demo if you wanted.

Thanks Clay and yes I really would love to see a demo, as this may help reduce my ramp up time; trying to get this done.  Please provide further info on this.  Thank you so much for your help.

    Clay,

I've tried to download the software and get an error. The error I'm getting is 'This setup requires Internet Information Server 4.0 or higher and Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or higher.  This set up cannot be installed on Windows 95, 98 or Windows ME. Please install ingternet information server and run this setup again'.   I'm running on windows XP, sp2 and from what I've seen on the website; it should not be a problem.

    Hi,
