    Pre-populate Autocomplete?

I'd like a text field to utilize Autocomplete with a pre-defined list of values.  I believe this is a function of IE, but wonder if there is a way to accomplish this, short of a custom activex.

A drop down may be a better option. Autocomplete cannot really be controlled or managed.

Autocomplete would present the the textual options, if it is enabled, and after each of the entries had been entered once.

One issue is that Autocomplete is on for all IE and InfoPath fields so after time other entries would polute it and more than what you wanted would probably be showing.  It is also user specific so each user environment would be different and need to be setup.  There is a way to transfer this data between users but again it is not controlable and would diverge.

    Hi,

I just saw your comment here earlier, and was wondering if it is possible to autocomplete from a access database?

I have a list of names, and I want the user to type the name and get it autocompleted.

    Is that possible?

    In advance, thanx!

    Hi Jorgen.

Autocomplete can be turned on as I said above and then the second time would have the string, however since it is capturing data everywhere it quickly becomes clutered with other strings than your names in InfoPath. There is no way to control when and where it is activated.

If you use a dropdown list of names then you can use the keyboard to jump to the first letter.  Example you click on the drop down and type "T" it would move through the list to the entries begining with T.

A true autocomplete must be done in code or you can use some other logic such as begins with but there is nothing built in.  If your list is long, then there may be a way to use other meta data to reduce the list, select group first and then have your selection reduce to just that group.
