    Re: Database data validation

    Yes, It is possible.

For that you have to take one secondary dataconnection to the Access database which has the tables you required to make the validation.

After taking the connection put one validation condition(by using data validation under the text box properties which you want to validate) as if the entered text is not matched with field which is in the secondary datasource.

I hope, it will help you to solve your problem.

    Re: Database data validation

ive added the access database as a secondary data source in infopath 2003. After creating the textbox and clicking on properties --> data validation --> add, i can only select 'field 1' under 'select a field or group'. sorry if it sounds dumb. im new to this. thanks

    Re: Database data validation

After taking the secondary data connection follow these below steps:

    1. Double click the field which you want to validate.
    2. Click Data validation-> Click Add button
    3. In the first drop down box select the field which you want to validate(Note: By default the first drop sown is displayed with that value only so please don't change it)
    4. In the second drop down box select "is not equal to" value.
    5. In the third drop down box first select "select a field or group" (it will display select a field or group dialog box)
    6. Under the "data sourse" drop down select the secondary data connection(which you have taken for the database) instead of main.
    7. Then select the field under the data fields with which you want to compare the current data.
    8. select the error type alert in which way you want alert the user from the "error type Alert".
    9. Click ok to close all dialouge boxes.

    Re: Database data validation

After you select 'Select a field or group' another box will pop up and there will be another drop-down at the top of this box that allows you to change which data connection you're looking at. In this case, you'll want to change to the data connection that you added to point to the Access database, and then choose the appropriate node from there.

    Re: Database data validation

I am new to InfoPath and I have followed the above instructions and I get a message even if I enter a value that is in the secondary data connection's field. Funny thing is if I change the validation to "is equal to" I get a message when I enter a value that matches the secondary data source which is what I would expect to happen. Don't know why I am getting a message when I input a valid value when the validation is set to "is not equal to". I am using InfoPath 2007.
