 With the below method when a user open the InfoPath form from the SharePoint site, his name and email address will automatically populate in their respective fields, so they wont have to type in their name or email id.   

 I am supposed to specify the below link and get GetUSerProfileByName.

 http://MyPortal/_vti_bin/UserProfileService.asmx?WSDL

 But I end up getting the following error.

 The file is not a valid XML file.

The file is not a valid XML document.

A document must contain exactly one root element.

  Line 1, Position 0

Next, I went to the above link but found nothing on the site. I read little bit about WSDL and I am supposed to see a simple set of definitions.   

Can you please tell me if there is supposed to be something on that page?

Your error is saying that in ‘GetUSerProfileByName’ xml is not valid. Can you check your xml once it does contain root element or not? In your xml should contain only one single root element and under that remaining nodes.
