hi.

i have created a form library and set it so that the form could be opened in  browsor.

the problem is, whenever a user save the form (via save button), sharepoint prompts them to input the file name.

what i want to do is auto file naming them with convention our company has made

e.g

Form_Login_Request_yyyymmdd

or

Form_Login_Request_[employeeNumber] (where employeeNumber is a key field on the form)

 can this be done? and if it can't, can somebody give me a reason why?

Yes this can be done. When you say (save button) is it the standard save button on the menu bar or a customizied Button in your form. Anyway you have to use a custom button. Add a dataconnection to your form, choose Submit -> To a Sharepoint library, run through the wizard, point it to your libray, add fields you wanna have the values shown in the library. In the last step of the wizard you have to specify a name under which your form will be stored. Just for an example like this you could save it as employeenumber+date: concat(nameOfYourEmployeeControl, now())

Hi All,

In reference to the above comments on Auto File Naming, is it possible to integrate a sharepoint list to the naming function.

So I have a list of sequential alpha-numeric codes so ARR0001, ARR0002, ARR0003 and so on.

Currently the naming right is based on one of the fields in the form, what I would like is if possible for the form to pick the next number in the list and assign that as the name of the form.

Any ideas? Can't seem to connect to the sharepoint list in infopath when creating or correcting a data connection.

i followed the way you posted for auto naming!!!!!

but i keep get an error saying "an error ocurred while the form was being submitted"!!!!! whenever i click on submit button i get that error, and when i click Save button, still it prompts me to provide FILE NAEM
