    Hidden Required Fields Upon Submitting Form

    Hope someone can help; I am trying to create an Sharepoint web form but within Infopath I am encountering an issue where the hidden REQUIRED fields are still required upon submitting the form.

    If <xsd:element name="New_Provider_or_Resource" type="my:requiredString"/>  = Resource

    Then

         <xsd:element name="Provider_Last_Name" type="my:requiredString"/>

         <xsd:element name="Provider_First_Name" type="my:requiredString"/>

         <xsd:element name="Provider_First_Name" type="my:requiredString"/>

         <xsd:element name="Gender" type="my:requiredString"/>

    are hidden and

        <xsd:element name="Resource" type="my:requiredString"/>

    is required

    or when

    <xsd:element name="New_Provider_or_Resource" type="my:requiredString"/> = Provider

    Then

     <xsd:element name="Resource" type="my:requiredString"/>

    is hidden and

        <xsd:element name="Provider_Last_Name" type="my:requiredString"/>

         <xsd:element name="Provider_First_Name" type="my:requiredString"/>

    xsd:element name="Provider_First_Name" type="my:requiredString"/>

         <xsd:element name="Gender" type="my:requiredString"/>

         <xsd:element name="Provider_First_Name" type="my:requiredString"/>

         <xsd:element name="Gender" type="my:requiredString"/>

    are required

    I have several other fields that are embedded in sections that are like this.

    Since I am not a programmer (Business Analyst) and trying to wing this on my own, any one who has the patience to help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you, Maria

    You should not use the "Cannot be blank" option of the controls properties but the Data Validation. Like this you can set conditions when your field should turn mandatory and you can even show custom messages in case a user wants to submit the form withou having all required fields filled.

    Nukkumatti,

     I did what you suggested by using Data Validation, however, when I validate with Design Checker I get warnings indicating "Dialog box validation messages will not show in brower-enabled form templates"; I plan on using as a web form on Sharepoint so I need to add some programming code in the .xsd schema.

    any ideas.

    Thank you

    Yes this is a known issue that you cannot have message boxes in browser enabled forms. Sorry did not see that you use browser enabled forms. Read this link to get an idea of the options you have to show messages in browser enabled form, however i doubt that you will be able to use the Data Validation functionality then. This will be tricky :)  Here the link http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/thread/18249.aspx
