Submit a specific view to email

I want to be able to submit a specific view to email, and only that view.

I've searched the forums and found loads of simular posts, but no answers to this specific question (that I found).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Apologies of this has apready been answered...

I haven't done any specific testing around this, but my initial guess is that you can only send the current view via email. *IF* that is the case, you will need to switch to the correct view, then perform your send.

I had a similar problem where the form had to be emailed to an authorising officer, who needed to open it in a specific view. I made a work around it by creating a rule to open the form in the specified view if the field containing the authorising officers ID was not blank. I know its not the best solution but it seems to work for me.

    Cheers

This is correct. Only the current view can be sent in email. Also, you can't have a rule to switch view and then trigger the email because of the way InfoPath rules work. One way we have handled this in the past is:

    1) add a node to the datasource which is "SpecialOpen" boolean default to false
    2) In your submit button use rules. first action is to set the openView to True. second action is to trigger the email submit.
    3) add a very small piece of OnLoad code to switch to the special view but make that rule conditional on if the SpecialOpen boolean is true.

You can get fancier with more complex open and close rules. If you were using code then you could actually write a string OpenView and then have code open the correct view based on the value in the OpenView node.

I've bee playing around with this. I can set a rule to switch to a view, then submit via email however the entire form is attached to the email, not the specifiv view I need.

Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?

Re: Submit a specific view to email

The entire XML will always be attached. The only thing that is view specific is also putting the view into the body of the mail message. However, that only happens when using InfoPath's built in email functionality (not email submit).

When you say you want to email with a specific view do you mean you want that view in the email body, or do you mean that you want the email recipient to see the specific view when opening the attached XML file?

Re: Submit a specific view to email

I only want the specific view visable in the body of the email. I dont want the rest of the form attached as an attachment. Not all users in my enterprise have InfoPath installed so the attached xml file will be useless to them. The view appears in the body of the email as HTML and is perfect for them.

Ah ok. So in InfoPath 2003 you cannot suppress sending the XML also. Also, email submit will not include the view in the body.

InfoPath 2007 remedies both these limitations.

Re: Submit a specific view to email

Hi Shiraz, as you mentioned earlier i've found that if you place the code found athttp://www.infopathdev.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2711
in your submit button, the view will appear in the body of the email whereas if you use the Submit method it does not, however it is possiblt to send the view with form errors using the code while Submit does not allow this.
