Naming form post from field display name

    Hi all --

I'm a non-programmer, so the answer to what I think is a simple problem is eluding me.

I have a form that pulls some information from a database via a web service, then sends information back.  There are two fields involved in this issue, item_name and item_ID.  Naturally the ID is needed when sending info back so that the new data populates the correct record.  The form currently has a drop-down field where the value is item_ID, but the display is item_name.  The user selects the appropriate item using the drop-down, but of course the value is the ID number.

In terms of using the form, sending the data, etc. this works fine.  The problem is that I want the main submit (a SharePoint form library) to automatically name the completed form based (in part) on the item name.  I was able to do this when the display & value where the same (pointing to a hand-typed list).  Now that the value is the ID number, however, the file is named with the ID.  I can't figure out how to tell it to either use the display data, not the value data, OR figure out a way to tell it to look at the data source and figure out which ID is tied to which name, and use the name as the file name.  I'm sure that if I had a better grasp of XML / XPath, the answer would probably be fairly obvious.  But ... as it is, I'm stuck!  Thanks in advance for any assistance offered.

You would have to reference your secondary data connection that feeds the drop down, not the dropdown directly, and use a filter to get the data you wanted.

    item_name where item_id = dropdown field.
