Set default value on a drop down list

I have a drop down list powered by a MOSS data source. This works fine.

How do i set one of these values to be the default value so i don;t always have to select it when filling out the form.

The form is also web only.

    Thanks in advance

To do this you can set the default value in the form via the node value. For dropdowns you need to do this in the data source task pane. Try these steps:

    1. Open your form in designer.
    2. In task pane switch to the Data Source tree
    3. Click your dropdown to select it.
    4. Note the node which gets selected in the Data Source.
    5. Double-click that node.
    6. Fill in your default value (make sure it's the dropdown "value" and not hte "visible label" if they are different.

    I hope this helps.

Re: Set default value on a drop down list

I'm having the same issue.  I want it to default to the first entry in my list.  I can type in "Green" in the default value box, no problem.  But, what if I do not know what my options will be, they are selected based on other form field entries.  I just want it to default to the first item in my list, can I do that?  If so, how?

Nevermind, I figured it out!  For others with the same problem, made a rule for each selection field where the action was the set the field's value and then used a filter to select the value from the database.
