InfoPath Dev

In a form I have a drop down list, and first for demo purpose I manually entered some items, and later I changed to use a data connection to return items in a SharePoint list, but I found when I preview, the drop down list always takes the first item of my manually entered stuff as the selected value, as if it can remember. The more weird thing is, when I choose some value from the data connection, after that that manually entered item disappears list a ghost. Can anybody help, thanks!

It is probably an issue with your template, when you updated the source for the drop down it did not clear out the default.

You could switch back to entered items and see if you see the entry still sitting in there, remove it and then switch to your data source. I would probably delete the whole control and save or save as and then put it back in and that would probably take care of it.

This is stock InfoPath behavior. The value exists in your XML file even though the control no longer knows about it. If you change the value, you will lose it - that's by InfoPath's design. Nothing you can do about that. Of course, you can undo the edit (ctrl-z) and it should return to the previous value.

Also I found another way to figure out. In the Tool->Default Values, you can change the default value as you like, this way removes the value I manually input (InfoPath will use the same as the default value).
