does the AD Webservice return only a subset of AD info?

    Hi there,

I recently purchased and installed the webservice, it works very well.

but it seems to return only some of the data in AD.

Should it return all fields in AD? or just populated fields?

Is the product limited in any way ? can restrictions be placed within AD limiting what the service can see?

    Thanks BeBlue

I am not the expert with it but I use it on a regular basis.

Can you describe exactly what data fields in AD you are trying to get?

What connection string you are using. Is it in the same domain? Are you using LDAP or the Global Catalog?

Which of the methods for the web service are you using?

    Hi BeBlue,

I am asking our support team to reply with more details, but so far as I know:

    a) AD Web Service should not vary the returned fields based on whether the field is populated. The returned fields should always be the same. Which method are you using?

    b) The Web Service does not support user-defined restrictions. However, you may be able to hide data based on how you configure it in AD.

Sorry of these answers don't elucidate it fully. Support team has this in their queue and will respond soon.

    Thanks for your patience!

Hi there thanks for you quick replys

i may have answered my own question here.

I have been using your repeating table example,i guess this only returns populated fields.

For example depending on the user ID i query, the manager field is there populated or not at all, and when i look in the GAL or ADUC the difference is the manager field is or isnt populated.

I will have to check which method, i think it was LDAP and we are in the same domain.

there is also a field called member of it appears to show group membership, but i am not sure how to separate this info into a usable format?

What i usually do is just drag in the whole secondary data source to my view as a repeating table and preview to see everything.

Once you see the fields you want you would add the value field to your form and then use a filter on that field to say key = "sAMAccount" Name or whichever you want.  Or you can use a repeating section and then put a confitional format on the section that says if Key != "name" hide.  This will show only the user's name.

If you spend some time playing with it you can get it figured out.

    Hi BeBlue,

Are there any specific fields from AD that you see missing. Ideally it should show all fields that the "user" has access to in AD. Are you running it on Win2K3 or XP? What account is it running under?
