    What problem are you having? I just recreated a new form from scratch using the guidelines on the reply you referenced, and it works fine for me. I'm using InfoPath 2003.

    Re: regular filter is not working

    I'm using infopath 2007 i will outline my setup below (i must note that i use filters elsewhere on the form and they work)

    So i have a temp field called Temp and i have a repeating table that has  a field in it called assetId my xml looks like this:

    so my filter says

    assetId is equal to temp

    I have a button in the repeating table and when i click on the button i put the assetId of the record i clicked into temp and then the view changes to the view that contains my repeating table that has the filter applied on it. Sometimes it works properly but most of the time it doesn't.. i have NO idea why!

    <InspectedAssets>

        <inspectedAsset>

            <assetName>Name</assetName>

            <assetId>1234</assetId>

        <inspectedAsset>

        <inspectedAsset>

            <assetName>Name 2</assetName>

            <assetId>2345</assetId>

        <inspectedAsset>

         <inspectedAsset>

            <assetName>Name 3</assetName>

            <assetId>3456</assetId>

        <inspectedAsset>

    </InspectedAssets>

    oh yeah the problem i am having is that the table with the filter on it is not filtering the data correctly. So when click the button in my first table to take me to the view with the filtered table, i update my Temp field with the assetId and the view switches. The table shows ALL of the assets, i want it to show only the asset whose button i clicked.

    ok now i understand a bit better what's going on.

    So the inspectedAsset nodes that you see in my above post, the assetID is selected from a drop down box. The user can type their own (new ) value into the box and this will update the underlying data source but whenever i do this the values that were 'manually' added show up in my filtered table when they shouldn't. I saved the xml and looked at it and the values look like proper values. Does anyone know why this is occurring?

    Re: regular filter is not working

    InfoPath does not filter out new values by default. Think of a scenario where you have a repeating table with a filter on the first column field. You select or type a value that should cause the row to get filtered out... how then do you finish completing the fields in that row? You don't if it is auto-filtered. This is a feature. You must click the down-arrow widget to the left of the row, and choose to reapply the filter.

    Now, having said that, if you have a readonly table that is just displaying data and no data entery will be done, then this can be an issue. You can force InfoPath to always apply the filter by manually editng your manifest.xsf file and locating any "useFilter" attributes and their associated "filterDependency" attributes, and just delete them from the element they are on. Without these two attributes, InfoPath will ALWAYS reapply the filter.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Greg, this helps however when i remove the "useFilter" and "filterDependency" attributes the link that allows me to add a new row to the repeating table doesn't work anymore. Is there something i'm doing wrong?

    Thanks,

    OHHHH. I 'm sorry i just re-read your post and noticed you said "read only" data source .. mine is not read only, the users will be entering values. ok so is there any way around this for my situation that you can think of?

    Hi Greg,

    One more quick question. Do you know how to programmatically re-apply a filter???

    In your situation, you have to have the users click the table widget, and choose to reapply the filter manually.

    I don't know of any way to force reapply of the filtes via code. Sorry.

    You need to go into the Repeating Table Properties dialog box, Display tab, and select the Show Filter Icon To Indicate Filtered Items check box.

    Then, since you followed the previous instructions for removing the filter attributes from the manifest.xsf file (I thought you were using read-only tables) you will need to copy your filters to notepad or something, remove all filters from the table, then add them back. This should place those attributes back into the manifest.xsf file and then everything should work again.

    Re: regular filter is not working

    Hi Greg,

    I am convalescing from a ruptured achillies tendon and have managed to spend some in depth time on some infopath projects.  I have a form which produces a view with General Journal transaction summaries which vary, based on the nature of both merged and input data input.  The problem is, that the transactions are produced subject to views and filters on the same repeating table.  The transactions therefore are not correct until the filter is refreshed.

    If the filter cannot be refreshed programmatically, is there a form handling process that will automatically refresh the filters without using the wretched 'temperamental' (not very dummy proof) widget at the side of the table.

    I have read your advise on editing the manifest file and it daunts me somewhat.

    Re: regular filter is not working

    The manifest edit is the only way that I know of to automate this. It makes it so that the filtering occurs immediately and always. That means that when you insert a new row, that new row MUST contain whatever is necessary (usually some field value on the row) to make that new row not hide as soon as it is inserted. This can be done using the default value feature in the repeating table/section properties dialog box.

    Always make a backup copy of your form template before attempting manual edits. Or if you are not comfortable working on your production form, then you can try it out in a new blank test form.

    Good luck. Let me know how it turns out.
