    Building a XSN

    Hello everyone

I am trying to build a xsn file from a previous form but with some changes.

What I want to do is : I have a field that is READ-ONLY. I am trying to make some change in the XSN file in order to have a value coming from my Java application into this field.

What I am actually doing is :

    - open the XSN file (with CarArc.exe from MS Visual Studio) to work directly with template.xml, myschema.xsd ...

    - modify myschema.xsd to put a fixed value into the element that will be in the READ-ONLY field. (I also modify template.xml and sampledata.xml)

    - make a new cab (using makecab.exe) from those recently modified files

Everything works, except that my value is not into my field when I open the new XSN file (but the value is still in myschema.xsd, template.xml ...).

When I open template.xml with InfoPath, it works (my value is in the field).

The problem is that this form will mainly be used on Tablet PCs and I don't want to have InfoPath on each one when a viewer (like infoscope or qdabra) can do the job.

Any idea on how to rebuild the XSN file ?

PS : I have noticed in the manifest.xsf a link to the original form, should I change this too ?

The main location to add the default value is template.xml. Other than that, also updating the sampledata.xml to match the change you made to template.xml is a good idea.

These should be the only required changes. You should not need to modify myschema.xsd.

I just found that I could use a external datasource for those READ-ONLY fields : external XML :)

So, just forget what I have just said, I am going to work with those external datasource.

    Thanks anyway !
