    Implemented the tutorial to add SharePoint list items with InfoPath???

    Now I need to display those items from the SharePoint lists in my form but only the items that match the unique ID pertaining to that form. Right now all items submitted to the lists are displayed in the Form. I notice that when I bind the repeating table to the secondary data connection that the option to filter disappears. With out the filter option available, how can I filter my action items based on the forms unique ID?

    Thanks in advance!

    Try Conditional Formatting instead, make your condition such that whenever a row does not match the unique ID, hide that row. Conditional Formatting works a bit differently from filters but I believe it should be okay in your case.

    Hi David, Thank you for the response. That was exactly what I was looking for. I have another question.

    I have a batch file with several rows but as you know it only displays one row in the design view. Can you tell me if there is a way to have a text box and a drop down list box within the same repeating table that has a secondary data connection with a batch file when I preview the form? I have done some searching on the net but I have not been able to find the solution.

    I am not sure I understand what you mean by a "batch file". Is this an XML data source? If it is you can definitely bind a textbox to it and you can populate a dropdown control with values from it. Not sure if I got your question right, though, could you please be more specific?

    Re: Implemented the tutorial to add SharePoint list items with InfoPath???

    Yes, I created a secondary data connection to a CAML source code (.XML) to submit a list to SharePoint. It creates 3 rows. Two of the fields will be populated via text box from user. Then I would like for the other field to contain a drop down list box which will contain a data connection to a SharePoint list. In design view, I can either create the showing field as a text box or a drop down list box, but not both.

     Thanks!

    Why cannot you just add both the textbox and the dropdown?

    You can then conditionally format them such that if the current row is 3, you hide the textbox, otherwise you hide the dropdown.

    Re: Implemented the tutorial to add SharePoint list items with InfoPath???

    I'm sorry I don't understand your respone let me try to explain better.
    Here is my secondary data source:
    -Batch
       OnError
      -Method
             ID
            Cmd
           -Field
               Name

    Here is my xml file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Batch OnError="Continue">
        <Method ID="1" Cmd="New">
            <Field Name='CRNumber'></Field>
            <Field Name="DocumentName"></Field>
            <Field Name="AssignedTo"></Field>
        </Method>
    </Batch>

    I want the second <Field Name> "DocumentName" to be a drop down list box. My problem is when I right click on Field in the data source to create a repeating table it only gives me one row to manipulate. I can only make that field a list box or a text box but I need both the first and last fields should stay text boxes.

    Like I said, you can just insert both:

    1. In designer, you insert "Fields" as a repeating table, it gives you one row with two columns, name and field. From the data source, drag the "name" node into the first column next to name. Now you've got two idential textboxes showing the same value.

    2. Convert one of the textboxes to a dropdown. Now you've got every row having BOTH the textbox and the dropdown.

    3. Finally, use conditional formatting to hide the control you don't want to see. For example, if the textbox should only show in the first row, you can use the following expression: if "position() != 1" then "Hide this control". You do the same for the dropdown.

    Good luck.

    Re: Implemented the tutorial to add SharePoint list items with InfoPath???

    Okay David,

    Thanks, that makes sense. I will try that in the morning. Just one more thing:

    1. Will the table still show the title of the fields in the left column so the user will know what data to input even if that control is hidden? That is the part that I was confused about?

    The titles are usually just text so they always show. In your case, the table header will not be affected.

    If you drag in a node from the Data Source pane, InfoPath Designer usually inserts the node name as plain text next to the control. If this is the title you're talking about, then just keep one piece text and two controls. The text will then always show.

    Hope it all makes sense,

    Dave.

    Hi david,

     I know this is a dumb question, hope you'll bear with me. You said conditional formatting works for table rows, this is based on your said statement:

    Try Conditional Formatting instead, make your condition such that whenever a row does not match the unique ID, hide that row. Conditional Formatting works a bit differently from filters but I believe it should be okay in your case.

    I have tried looking for it but to no avail. I also did, right click on a highlighted table row, then table properties, but no conditional formatting found.

    This can help me make my form more user friendly, and your help will be much appreciated.

     Thank you.

    What version of InfoPath are you using? In InfoPath 2007 conditional formatting is available when you right-click on the repeating table.

    Re: Implemented the tutorial to add SharePoint list items with InfoPath???

    Hi David,

    its infopath 2007.

    But unfortunately this only works for repeating tables, but how about for usual/normal table rows, without any data associated with it, will it still work?

    coz when I do a right click on a 'repeating' table row, the conditional fomatting option is displayed, but for normal table row its not displayed.

     thanks again david!
